About Bangkok Spirit

Bangkok Spirit is an independent travel guide dedicated to Bangkok and the escapes you can realistically reach from it — the Grand Palace and the temples, Chinatown and Yaowarat street food, the Chao Phraya river and Thonburi's canals, the neighbourhoods of Sukhumvit and Silom, plus day trips to Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, the floating markets, Khao Yai and the beaches of Pattaya and Hua Hin. Our mission is to plan the trip you actually want, honestly: which Grand Palace and temple tickets are genuinely worth booking in advance, whether Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa is the floating market for you, and which "day trip from Bangkok" is a comfortable excursion and which one quietly means a 5am start and a long return.

Our approach

Every guide, itinerary and recommendation on this site is built on first-hand research. We name real neighbourhoods (Rattanakosin, Yaowarat, Talat Noi, Thonglor, Ari, Bang Krachao), real food (pad thai, boat noodles, khao man gai, mango sticky rice, and the Michelin street stalls of Yaowarat), real experiences (Wat Pho and the Reclining Buddha, Wat Arun at sunset, a longtail boat through the khlongs, a Muay Thai match at Rajadamnern), and we quote real prices in Thai baht. We give honest assessments of tourist traps — the "Grand Palace is closed today" and gem scams, the tuk-tuk drivers with an agenda, the overhyped rooftops and the "skip-the-line" resellers you don't need. If something is genuinely not worth it, we say so.

What we cover

Bangkok Spirit covers the city in real depth: the old city of Rattanakosin (the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, the Golden Mount), Chinatown (Yaowarat night street food, Wat Mangkon, Talat Noi), the Chao Phraya riverside (dinner cruises, IconSiam, the historic piers), Sukhumvit (Thonglor and Ekkamai dining and nightlife, Ari, Phrom Phong), Silom and Sathorn (rooftop bars, Lumphini Park, the Erawan Shrine and the Siam shopping core), Thonburi (the khlongs, Bang Krachao's green lung), the markets (Chatuchak, the floating markets, the Maeklong railway market), Muay Thai and Thai massage, and day trips to Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Khao Yai and the coast.

How we earn revenue

Bangkok Spirit is a free resource. We earn commissions when you book tours and activities through our affiliate links with GetYourGuide and Viator. This costs you nothing extra and helps us keep our guides free and up to date. Our affiliate relationships are always disclosed transparently. Read our full affiliate disclosure.

Available in 8 languages

Bangkok Spirit publishes in English (canonical), Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch and Polish. Bangkok draws travellers from across the world, and most English-language guides simply ignore non-English readers — so we publish full, native-quality translations rather than auto-translation.
